Sunday the 27th of July, saw the children of Christine Revell Children’s Home lined up, ready to leave by bus to go and see the magical show, DISNEY ON ICE, at Cape Town`s Grand West.
The excitement was palpable as the children boarded the bus with great excitement and started to sing “the wheels on the bus go round and round”.
This was the culmination of a few months of planning – thanks to the extraordinary generosity of donors both in South Africa and the United Kingdom.
The children were accompanied by carers – also generously sponsored by our donors. Each child had their own personal “goody bag” containing juices, sweets, lollypops and a toy. Enough numbers and treats to render the children very high!!
As the bus arrived at Grand West, the excitement of the children was matched by the nervous anxiety of the carers as we shepherded the children to their seats – anxious to lose no one!
As soon as the show began – Mickey and Minnie Mouse making their first amazing appearance, the children were transfixed! It was so rewarding, moving and beautiful to witness 22 children transfixed and entranced by the magic taking place in front of their eyes. And as their favourite characters, Buzz Lightyear, Beauty and the Beast, Nemo, The Lion King and many more took to the area, the joy, awe and wonder was incredible to witness.
Afterwards we took them to The Spur, where they were able to play and run around in the soft play areas before being treated to burgers, fries, juice and ice cream.
22 very tired children returned that evening to Christine Revell, still clutching their goody bags, but having enjoyed and experienced a very special day.
